What Makes Them Different?
Unlike a traditional furnace or forced air system, mini-split systems do not require any ductwork. The split system includes a heat pump (outside) and a secondary unit called an air handler (inside). The air handler is mounted indoors on a wall, ceiling or attic and individually feeds specific areas of the home via fans. Depending on the model of ductless mini-split system you choose for your home, you can have up to eight air handlers installed, each with their own temperature controls and thermostat. These systems are great in the retrofit application where space is of a minimum. Paired with a solar system, electric heat pumps can be extremely efficient.
